Basic Technique of Meditation

Meditation is a very effective method of bringing mental and physical relaxation and freeing the mind from tensions and deep-rooted complexes. Through meditation we can eliminate restless thoughts and relax our body. We can acquire complete knowledge of the mind, can systematically train and regulate the infinite potentialities of the mind.

Basic technique of meditation is to learn to relax the body and control the mind's activity. Give at least fifteen to twenty minutes for meditation. The method is not very difficult but a suitable technique must be found for each person.

Right  from the moment of our birth to the final moment of death, the  only  activity we do consciously or unconsciously but continuously is   breathing. If we can master this one activity,  we can achieve mastery over whole life. Breathing exercise will help to tune into the subtle sounds of the body to develop inner awareness. It will help to calm down the mind and revitalize the physical body

First step is to focus the mind to breathing. Take a deep breath effortlessly and feel a calming influence through out the body. Close the eyes and continue to breathe rhythmically and quietly. Feel the breath, sensitize the breath. Feel the warm air touching the walls of the nostrils as you exhale and feel the cool air touching the walls of the nostrils as you inhale. Feel the lightness in the body when you inhale and feel the relaxation in the body when you exhale.

The  process of  observing the breath itself will help to calm down the  mind. Just focus  the mind consciously on breath, automatically speed of  breath will come  down. Focusing on breath consciously will help to  relax the mind and  body. Coordination between mind, body and breath  will relieve the  tensions, stress at the mind level.

Sit in a  comfortable posture, keep the back straight, gently close the  eyes.  As you inhale deeply and slowly, energize the body and feel the lightness. As you exhale, release the tension and enjoy the relaxation. When you have an idea to relax the mind and body, you will be able to enjoy the art of meditation.

Be conscious of your deep, quiet breathing and its ability to transform the negative thoughts into the positive thoughts. Let your mind rest in a climate of serenity. Imagine the vast beautiful blue sky, the limitless blue sky. Expand your awareness as vast as the blue sky. When you expand your mind, automatically, gradually mind becomes calm and quiet. Enjoy and experience the blissful state of silence and all pervasive awareness.

Use the power of mind to see yourself as a happy,  positive person. Positive thinking brings about positive action. Welcome the life as it comes before you in a positive attitude. Meditation is cumulative. With each new day of practice the mind will begin to form new patterns of thought control. During the situations of stress and tension, we can handled it in a relaxed way. Happiness is within us, we have to feel and experience it.

Meditation itself comes spontaneously, but to develop meditation we have to go through whole process of relaxation. This process is accomplished by withdrawing from the external environment and going deep within our self. Gradually through regular practice we can withdraw the awareness from the world outside, from the body and conscious mind. In yoga it is said that when consciousness is withdrawn from all of these, complete relaxation occurs and the true meditation begins.
