Concept of Yoga



Yoga is one of the six systems of the philosophy known as Sat Darsanas. Yoga is an ancient art based on a harmonizing system of development for the body, mind and spirit. The practice of yoga will lead one to sense of peace, well being and a feeling of being in harmony with one's environment.

The 'Yoga' comes from the Sanskrit root 'Yuj' meaning to unite, to integrate. To represent the highest state of union, integration between individual or human consciousness and cosmic or divine consciousness. It represents the ultimate goal or the supreme objective of all human endeavors to attain perfection, to achieve all round growth. It is an expansion of the narrow constricted egoistic personality to an all pervasive, eternal and blissful state of REALITY. It is the union of the body, mind emotion and spirit. The basis of yoga is happiness. Yoga helps one to achieve peace within and about oneself.

Yoga is an " Ancient  Indian Science ". Nearly 4000 years ago Sage Patanjali compiled the essential features and principles of yoga in the form of sutras made a vital contribution to the field of yoga. Patanjali Yoga is one among the six systems of Indian Philosophy known as Sat Darsanas.

Sage Patanjali, the father of yoga philosophy, defines yoga as the ' the control of thought waves in the mind '. Sage Vashista defines yoga as the trick to calm down the mind. In Bhagvad Gita, Lord Krishna depicts yoga as dexterity in action and yoga as equanimity. Swamy Vivekananda defines yoga as a conscious process to accelerate one'd evolution in a single birth, a few years, a few months or a few days.
