Therapeautic Aspects of Yogasanas


Yoga system of healing is based on the premise that the body should be allowed to function as naturally as possible. Practising the recommended asanas will first rejuvenate the body and the tackle the causes of the ailment. The process of yoga therapy is based on selecting and sequencing the asanas which stretch the specified parts of the body.

The science of yoga, as well as of Ayurveda is of traditional Indian system of healing, based on herbal remedies. Ailments the afflict the body and the mind are under the three categories. viz.,

1. Self - inflicted ailments, caused by neglect of the body.
2. Congenital ailments which are present since birth.
3. Ailments which are caused by the imbalance of Tri - Doshas (vatha, pitta, kapha) in the system.

Benefit of yoga therapy is that it has been known to raise the threshold of pain and endurance. This only happens, if the recommended asanas are practiced with patience and dedication. Yoga calms the brain and soothes the nerves reducing the apprehension of the suffering pain. Nature alone is the ultimate source for curing the problems of the body. This natural process however, operates at its own rhythm and pace.

Yoga therapy begins with understanding of the entire human body and the way it functions. The origin and development of ailment in question are carefully studied, particularly the parts of the body most likely which are affected. The aim is not simply to cure the specific symptoms but also to target the cause.
